About us

	I hold a University Degree in Foreign Languages and I have been working for many years for a US Tour Operator, taking full responsibility for the incoming services to Italy. I had been writing for some Italian travel magazines about events and attractions in Rome.I decided to devote my expertise about the city to independent travelers and I obtained my official license as tour guide passing an exam of the Province of Rome. During my spare time, I enjoy wandering around my city, walking or riding my blue bike or my inseparable moped looking for charming places, amusing anecdotes, unique shops and learning more and more about 3000 years of Roman history!
Since 2003 I am also Mattia’s lucky mum! Motherhood gave me new ideas to explore the city through the eyes of a kid: this way our kid friendly itineraries suitable for families were created. With a few reliable collaborators, I have founded A Friend In Rome, a group of friends each one skilled in a different field within the wide world of tourist services. Our goal? To provide all kinds of assistance, advices and ideas in a friendly and customer-tailored way, in order to help all of you to truly know Rome! Here are some of our friends in Rome:
	Ryan moved to Italy in 2004, shortly after graduating from college in Washington, D.C. with a degree in Public Communications. His family had emigrated from the Naples area to Connecticut, USA (where he grew up), about 100 years before. Now he had returned to find his roots and his passion in the land of oil and wine. Over the last 5 years working as a tourism professional in Rome he has given more than 3,000 group and private tours. He loves his job and takes special pride in his skills for speaking extremely clearly, for storytelling in a way that brings art and history alive!
	Dino is a native Roman tour guide who gained his great experience (despite his joung age) over 10 years of collaboration with the prestigious Italian National Trust and working for several european student associations. He graduated in Arts and gained a PhD in History, but his deep knowledge of Rome comes from a true passion for his city and his job!
	Ennio, boasting a very “roman” name, was born and raised in Rome. He has been working as a tour guide for 15 years and he is still very passionate about his job. He specialized in art hisotry of the XVI and XVII century, but he loves every aspect of the history, art, food and culture of the Eternal City. Trastevere and the Jewish ghetto are one of his favourite paths because you can experience 2000 years of history and still see the real Romans living today out from the mad crowd…
	Simone and Francesco, “locals” and social-networkers, are always ready to arrange an “aperitivo”, a tour or a party mingling expats with Romans, Italian “migrants” with passing travellers… Moreover they have just opened their own apartments to welcome many guests in town: check it out in the Accommodation section!
	Pierpaolo is an expert skipper and yachtmaster offshore. He has been sailing since ever around the Mediterranean Sea from Turkey to Spain and he knows every bay of the western italian coast: Pontine islands, Argentario, Capri and Ischia, Sardinia and Corsica…. Enjoy a wonderful sailing boat cruise with us, you’ll discover incredible hidden gems!
	Gigi, formerly a manager in American Express, is now our ”pizzaiolo”: he learnt the secrets of pizza-making and a special recipe in Sorrento more than 20 years ago and he is now sharing with you his long experience, opening the doors of his home (and his lovely garden with a wood oven!)
	Kaba is a professional chef ”on demand”: she is available for private cooking lessons or to prepare a special dinner just for you in your Roman apartment or in special private venues. A great occasion to learn about local culture through your senses, spend some hours with a local or enjoy a very romantic dinner with your “special one” completely alone!
	Giampiero, together with Alfredo and Marco, started touring guests around Italy by his car and minivan in 1995. After so many years spent in the hectic traffic of Rome he still greets everybody with a smile and never loses his patience and his good mood!
	Antonio, a “driving-guide”, is always relaxed on board of his brand new van, even in the worse traffic of Rome and Naples! He knows every path not only in Rome, but in Tuscany, Umbria, Naples and the Amalfi Coast. He can transfer you from one city to another of your Italian trip stopping in small towns or major attractions to enjoy the beauties of our country! His van is perfect to explore the outskirts of Rome, savouring a day out!
	Patrizia runs Eco Move Rent together with her husband Mauro. They have plenty of Vespa, scooters, bikes and motorbikes at disposal for you to enjoy the city on two wheels!
	Valerio lives in Rome since he was 3 year old. He graduated in History at Rome’s University La Sapienza and he is now a licensed tour escort, specializing in bike and scooter tours, the best way to discover our city!
	Fabrizio, our priceless webmaster! He is one of the typical specimen of Roman native who has barely been inside the Colosseum (probably during a mandatory school trip…) , but we are not completely hopeless to “convert” him sooner or later!
